Good Welcome to all those of whom Formorrow never comes!
introduction
Welcome to the development site for "Twilight - a long way till morning". An inspiration that has poliferated my thoughts for quite some time and will do for much further more.
PLEASE NOTE - this has nothing to do with a book called "Twilight" that has only just come to my attention through developing this site and the fact they are supposedly making a film about said book. If you are looking for that then you're in the wrong place.. this game has nothing to do with Vampires just puzzles, an alice in wonderland temperament oh and aliens :D
The project is basically a Flash Game, but I've always wanted to have my own game platform that I could constantly extend and update - just like any website. The intention is to produce a game that has a slight retro feel to it that incorporates many of my favourite game styles together as one. Parallax Platformer combined with a Point & Click adventure muddled with a Halflife like atmosphere and a RPGish character buffing. Sounds like a lot to fit in but to my mind a completely natural progression... well if you're naturally a work-a-holic that is.
So yes - like my other five projects - I have my work cut out for me... but I've always liked a challenge.. and I've got a feeling so do many other gamers out there. So I'll try not to disappoint.
Watch this space..
for it may do something
rather fun soon
... or you could watch this demo for the moment ...
ps. ignore the secondary Annabell,
i accidentally saved her in to the demo map...
so she'll be part of the background for the time being.. doh!
the idea
So my whole plan for Twilight is that once I have the game engine and the first few puzzle chapters worked out I will launch but then I will keep extending and altering the game as I go along - revealing more storyline and characters as and when I can fit the work in.
This should turn a disadvantage (of never having enough time) in to a positive element as hopefully it should keep players interested. And if not, then it will still be fun to make and give me a constant outlet for my rather odd imagination and sketch drawing style.
It will also serve as a good showcase for my Flash, Graphics & Code talents as I will soon be getting out of the self-employed situation and looking for some real employment - basically because I want to keep what's left of my hair and remember what it's like to have consistent money again. Please feel free to email me at if you like what you see. Not that there's too much to see just yet ;)
story so far
Annabell wakes to a whole host of very strange noises and lights - crashes, bangs, screetches, glows, flashes and wails... you name it - scary stuff, especially for a 14 year old. After a long while she finally decides to leave the sanctuary of her bed and it's infallibly protective quilt. After creeping around a bit she finds that her parents are gone and her house seems to be in a strange state of aged disrepair.
After her curiosity has got the better of her fear - several hours in fact - she decides to venture outside to see if her family are anywhere around. After collecting a backpack and a few useful items she heads out in to what should have been a sunrise.. but for some reason the sky - and time for that matter - seem stuck constantly in a state of twilight.
This is where you find Annabell. Your mission is simple. You have to help her discover what has happened, find her parents and somehow find a way to put things right.. You may not be totally alone however. You may even get some help from the strangest of somebodies... But at the end of the day it is - in a happily familiar way - all down to you to save the day :)

Currently I'm working on the games Particle() effects, this will drive all the cool lighting and artefact effects. It will also power a certain main character that for the time being will remain nameless. Having developed the Game Engine up to version III things seem to be progressing well even though I haven't had much free time to spend. So watch this space and very soon I may actually have a playable demo with some puzzles!! :D

So far I am on to version II of the game engine which I am rather pleased with and it has been upgraded to ActionScript 3 now so a much better frame-rate.. I have yet to re-import annabell's code to the new style of doing things so you'll have to bear with me but I have now got the control system down exactly as I like it for annabell and a *mystery* character ;) so all is good.. but just like all of my personal projects and this very website - everything is work in progress so if you are interested please bookmark (ctrl-d) this website and check back often.
